The council was founded in 1974, and through lobbying, promoting and actions, these accomplishments have taken place over the years.

1.Additional, low-cost, affordable housing for single seniors.

2.Additional vans for the Dial-A-Ride system in Glendale.

3.A cross-town system of mini-busses.

4.Increased funds and facilities for the Senior Nutritional Meals Program. Today we have three Nutritional Meals Centers serving over 300 daily.

5.Help for seniors to secure part-time jobs. Many need additional income for the bare necessities of life. The Council initiated the Senior Employment Service , now
defunct due to lack of funding.

6.A Senior Center in the La Crescenta-Montrose area.

7.More adequate health care for seniors below the poverty level. Great strides have been made in this.

8.A plan to help secure more "in home service workers" for ill and handicapped
seniors. This is a major emphasis of the Senior Employment Service and also the State Employment Service , now defunct.

9.Senior Volunteer Recognition Event and Ceremony along with the senior fair.

10.Senior web site.

Currently the Council is focusing on these 3 areas of concern:

1.Affordable senior housing.

2.Senior transportation.

3.Building of the new senior center.
